2 BEDROOMS | 4 GUESTS | ITACARÉ, BAHIA
Situated just 12km from the famous beaches of the cool surfing town of Itacaré, the villa is a jungle hideaway with stunning views of the Contas River and Atlantic Ocean. The wooden house is built on a platform elevated 5m above the surrounding vegetation, which makes the best of the great views from the property while at the same time creating a degree of separation from the jungle in this uniquely open-plan house.
The hardwood deck which surrounds the swimming pool and thrusts out over the treetops is a real feature and guests tend to spend much of the day here, gazing out towards the ocean. For those who enjoy yoga, it is a unique space in which to practice and a yoga teacher can be arranged to come and give classes on request. Beach lovers can make it down to the ocean to any number of the most-loved beaches on this this stretch of the Bahian Coast in 15-20 minutes, and trips into town for dining, surfing or shopping are made all the more enjoyable via boat. It takes about 15 minutes along the river to Itacaré from the private pier on the property.
The house is spread over two floors and offers approximately 580m2 of accommodation. Sliding wooden doors can be pushed back to entirely open up the ground floor living space with the deck and that great view and the double height ceiling gives a light, airy feel to the kitchen, dining area (the table seats eight guests comfortably) and living area. The fully equipped kitchen is a focal point of the living area and suits those who like to cook or prepare meals together, and the cooking area is set amid a poured cement clock with a double sink, hob and food preparation area. Alternatively, we can provide a good local cook to prepare special lunches or dinners.
The bedrooms are split between the two floors with the master suite occupying the whole of the first floor. The master suite has a king-sized bed draped with a white muslin mosquito net, a veranda with sea and jungle views and a good-sized bathroom, and occupies the whole of the first floor under the apex of the point roof made of local piaçava palm thatch. The guest suite is on the second floor and has a queen-sized bed, again with a heavy white muslin mosquito net, large bathroom with a shower and tub and a veranda with jungle and ocean views.
The house has been built making use of the best of local traditional design and building techniques and all of the materials used in the construction were locally sourced. The furniture was designed especially for the property and the owners have achieved a stylish blend of modern design with traditional materials and labour, which works well in the space.
While the house is not suitable for children, it is an ideal hideaway for those wanting to surf or explore the incredible beaches in this part of the southern Bahian Coast.
In addition to daily maid service, a heavenly tropical breakfast is included each morning and massage, yoga and surf lessons and equipment hire can all be arranged at the villa for an extra charge.
Additional accommodation can be arranged for one more couple at the neighbouring Villa Itacaré.
The villa is best visited from September to May.

“Bahia has 1,000km of coastline, and most of it looks like this. There are wild, empty bays and deserted islands; and though not private - no beach in Brazil is private - its beaches may as well be, because you can walk along them for hours and not see another soul. All along the coast you can find bright-eyed marmosets in the jungle, turtles on the sand, whales in the sea. And if other souls are what you seek, it has surf villages, candy-coloured colonial towns, chic resorts and beach bars where Hollywood stars and Brazilian models sip from coconuts. Bahia is where Brazilians go on holiday, and it is easy to see why. But for the rest of us, much of it is uncharted territory, its best beaches and places to stay remain well-kept secrets, hidden gems amid tropical greenery. You just have to know where to look.” - Laura Fowler, ‘Brazil’s Coolest Beaches’ Conde Nast Traveller
The pride of Itacaré is it’s two dozen-odd pristine beaches dotted up and down the coast near the town. Some are more accessible than others, but practically all look like they have been plucked from the pages of a glossy travel mag.
Surfing is Itacaré's main draw, as the calm, consistent breaks are a magnet for pros and novices alike, and we can arrange instruction for all levels of surfers (as well as equipment hire). SUPs and kayaks can also be rented locally.
“Itacaré town comes alive after the sun sets. Bahian restaurants serve up banana-leaf-blackened fish, and bartenders sling caipirinhas on the cobblestone streets, blending the rum-like cachaça with your choice of tropical fruit displayed in mounds on their wooden carts. The entire town can be traversed in half an hour by foot, and you can almost always find a capoeira demonstrations or a street samba parties (both Bahian inventions) by simply listening for the beat.” - Josh Eells, Men’s Journal
